If there's one change that has impacted Long Island SEO, perhaps more than anything else, it would be the rise of mobile platforms. No longer do people have to be at their computers in order to access the Internet. Instead, performing a Google search, looking up something online, or what have you can be done right from one's smartphone. It seems like search engines have been more mobile-focused for about a year now. This change makes sense, especially when you consider that about three-fourths of all adults in the United States are smartphone owners. It's also worth noting that, with the advent of mobile devices like the ones covered earlier, information becomes more convenient than ever. We would have to rely on a wired Internet connection in order to go online, which is a need that has been reduced with the technological changes that occurred since then. Despite the growth of mobile platforms, however, desktop remains an important topic.

Don't assume that desktop platforms have no use, as your target audience may use them in certain ways. A potential customer might research a product on their phone while at a coffee shop, but this doesn't mean that they'll make a purchase right then and there. In fact, it's entirely possible that they will go home, log onto their own computer, and buy said product when they're settled. This example of human behavior is one of the reasons why desktop is integral to any SEO strategy.

While we are on the subject of desktop versus mobile platforms, let's look at bounce rate. For the uninitiated, this is an indicator of how many people visit a site, only to click away after a short time. Whereas mobile users tend to leave sites as soon as they arrive, desktop users seem to be more drawn in. As a result, the latter will yield a more positive statistic to report on. Bounce rate plays an important role in SEO, so keep this in mind for the future.
