Why XBMC Streaming Media Boxes Are The Better Option

By Jessica Moore

The way people view and consume media has been changing over time. Thanks to the internet, online videos and other streaming platforms have become more popular. Unlike before, this is a more common method of looking at videos and listening to music when compared to watching cable TV. Television networks are starting to ride this trend and have adapted and adjusted promptly.

The storage for movies, music and files have been changing over time. From the more primitive VHS to CDs, DVDs and blu ray. Now most consume this media in a way that is not limited to storage capacity. This is how XBMC streaming media boxes became popular, the same way VHS and CD players became a thing back then.

What used to be known as XBMC now goes by the name, Kodi. Kodi is not a device but a software that plays movies, sound and so on, basically. A streaming box uses this software so that it can be plugged into a screen to view movies a certain way. Imagine the player on your computer, only more elaborate and with more features.

There may be some of these boxes that include piracy applications that could get you in trouble. These work great if you have a home theater or one spot at home where you prefer to lounge and watch movies or listen to music. There are many top rated boxes to choose from.

Most of these run on Quad core Central Processing Units, that come with at least 2 gb of RAM and internal hard drive storage capacities. Most of them come with different numbers of USB 3.0 ports so you can plug in external hard drives with your movies in them. Many of these boxes process 4k media too.

XBMC compared to its competitor, Plex, may be more difficult to use in terms of interface. You can be assured of infinite customizability though, which is something many users are after. Interface is really just something that you need to get used to along the way, once you do, everything should be comfortable enough to navigate through.

The biggest winning factor that XBMC has is how it is very flexible. Customizability is something Kodi prides itself with. Although, this is also the reason why navigating through the interface can be complicated initially. But the more you use it, the easier it becomes.

Plug ins, add ons and practically anything you can think of to work on with the device is possible with a Kodi box. It is all a matter of downloading the plug in and installing it. A lot of support regarding the device is available online. So if you consider yourself tech savvy it might be best to go for the XBMC route.

Remote control features can be as simple as using your mouse, keyboard, Universal remote control and so on. You also have to option download a free remote control app in the play store for android phones and 3 dollars for Apple devices. If it helps you make a decision, more people use XBMC boxes above everything else.
